Crash test results
successfully proved pole sizes: 50, 65, 80, 90 & 100mm NB fell
within the guideline of the NCHRP-350 Standard for open road
conditions, and was subsequently approved for use by the FAC and
Transit New Zealand.
Vic Roads and Transport SA
have since approved this product.
The patented frangible pole
system works in conjunction with a purpose made ground socket or
sleeve designed to be a snug fit between pole and socket.
Depending on pole diameter and length sockets can be supplied up to
1200mm long and set in concrete foundations designed
to local engineering requirements.
The socket top acts as the shear point, and combined with the
molecular structure of the alloy, will under sudden impact bend at
the impact point and ultimately shear and breakaway
at the socket top.
Pole flutes are designed to further assist
the breakaway process by reducing the external surface
area.
Both pole and socket are manufactured from
high strength marine grade alloy with a
typical yield strength of 275
MPa. This alloy has excellent age
hardening qualities and will continue
to strengthen
over time.
